So my English boyfriend/fiance is coming to visit me in the US in February for two weeks, and never having been through US customs with a non-US passport, I thought I'd ask you guys for tips. Is it risky for him to be honest and admit that he's seeing his girlfriend, and staying with her family? Even if he has a return ticket will they see him as a illegal settlement risk or something of the kind? Should he downplay it and say he's visiting an American Uni friend? Does he need bank statements, or documentation from us specifying where he's staying, or any other paperwork besides customs declaration?
I suspect that simply having a return ticket will ease their minds, but even being American I've never been impressed with the cuddly kindness of American border officers. I just want any advice you guys might have. If it matters he'll be going through customs in DC.
Edit:
I think that what is worrying me is that I currently live with him in Scotland, I'll be on holiday in the US at that time (for 2 months longer than him) and we're essentially engaged. It might seem to them that we're a risk for a quick marriage and attempted settlement, and I really really don't want him to get turned away.
